ITMO University (Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics) is one of the oldest institutions of engineering education in Russia that dates back to 1900. Nowadays, it is the leading Russian research university in the field of ICT and photonic technologies. ITMO students are the only seven-time World Champions of the International programming competition ACM ICPC.

ITMO University provides training to 11000+ students, including 6300+ bachelor degree students, 4700+ master degree students, 900+ PhD students and 1800+ foreign students from 71 countries. It employs 1300+ lecturers and professors. ITMO has 13 international centers of excellence co-chaired by local and foreign scientists with worldwide recognition.

Since 2013, the university has been a leader of Project 5-100 – the nation-wide initiative aimed at improving the status of the top Russian universities in the international research and education arena. In THE ranking ITMO University occupies the 3rd place among Russia’s universities.

In 2014, as a sign of its commitment to international cooperation, ITMO University launched the first European Liaison Office ever created by a Russian university in Brussels. The Liaison Office in Brussels is the point of contact for European partners interested in educational, research, and innovation cooperation with ITMO University.

ITMO’s international education programs are thematically spanning from photonics and optics, robotics, ICT and supercomputing, to chemistry and biotechnology, innovation and technology management studies.

ITMO University participates in five innovation clusters in St. Petersburg region, has two student business incubators and two student start-up accelerators for ICT projects.
