Université Côte d’Azur was established in January 2020 with the status of a Grand Établissement. It is the recipient of the major national label of excellence initiative ‘IdEx’, which places it among the 9 French ‘IdEx’ universities that are intensive in research and have a strong outreach.
Grounded in the belief that, in an increasingly complex and interconnected world, such an approach is essential to anticipating future challenges, Université Côte d’Azur positions itself as a key driver of the region’s scientific and economic development while enhancing its international visibility. Its IdEx label of excellence is reflected in its commitment to:
- Strengthening Université Côte d’Azur positioning of excellence and transdisciplinary model while reinforcing its attractiveness and societal impact,
- Fostering partnerships between the excellence of Université Côte d’Azur research teams and the innovative potential of the local ecosystem, to contribute to the growth dynamics of its territory and beyond,
- Aligning its educational offerings and programs with this commitment to excellence.
Université Côte d’Azur operates 14 campuses across the French Riviera territory, including iconic locations such as Nice, Cannes, Menton, Grasse, and Sophia Antipolis, all of which reflect the university’s strong connection to the region. Furthermore, the Universities also rely on three mirror Campuses: the DNITT in Danang, the BISI in Montenegro, and the Franco-Indian Campus in Bangalore and Delhi.
A founding member of the European alliance Ulysseus (Ulysseus), host to one of the four French Interdisciplinary Institutes of Artificial Intelligence (3IA, 3IA Côte d’Azur – Interdisciplinary Institute for Artificial Intelligence), and equipped with significant partnerships with major national research players, Université Côte d’Azur aims to position itself among the best European universities and thus strengthen its international dimension.
Our signature
Université Côte d’Azur has made interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research a strong signature of its commitment to addressing the challenges of the contemporary world. By encouraging excellence and dialogue between disciplines, the university transcends scientific boundaries to devise innovative approaches to environmental, social, and technological challenges. As such, interdisciplinarity is at the heart of the support mechanisms put in place by the university, notably through its Academies of Excellence, its thematic institutes such as NEUROMOD, and its Graduate Schools (EUR). These spaces foster the emergence of new concepts and encourage collaboration between researchers from different backgrounds. By facilitating the exchange of know-how and structuring high-impact projects, these initiatives enrich disciplines while strengthening the influence of research on society.
European and International commitment
In coherence with its internationalization strategy and driven by the ambition to strengthen its European presence, Université Côte d’Azur opened a Brussels Office in March 2025. Located within the Permanent Representation of the Région Sud, it aims to increase the University’s European impact and commitment to the Higher Education and Research Area.
The core activities of the Office are:
- To participate in events related to the key areas of Université Côte d’Azur,
- To monitor policy developments in the field of R&I & identify programs that would allow Université Côte d’Azur and its partners to strengthen a territorial dynamic,
- To liaise with the Maison Irène and Frédéric Joliot Curie, to which we have been affiliated since 2022, France Universités, and other permanent representations,
- To identify potential new partners for Université Côte d’Azur,
