The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland, located in the city of Oulu, in the North of Finland. Founded in 1958, it is one of Finland’s most multidisciplinary universities with 8 faculties for medicine, technology, humanities, sciences, business etc. The University of Oulu is situated in the northern periphery of the EU and has a special focus also on the arctic hemisphere and space also demonstrated by a recently developed Arctic strategy. The University strives for excellent quality and high impact in all its activities: our researchers publish several thousand scientific papers every year and new research-based start-ups arise annually. At UOULU, we are building the future and addressing humanity’s most pressing questions by generating knowledge and skills to tackle major global challenges steering our research, education and cooperation.

This is demonstrated by UOULU’s spot as one of the best Finnish universities in receiving Horizon Europe Pillar II funding, solving challenges together with our collaborators and stakeholders.
The University of Oulu EU office is located in 24 Avenue Palmerston. The focus of the office is to follow and advocate for research and innovation policy, both in general and focused thematic fields, to create and maintain EU-level networks, participate in information sharing and collaboration with similar entities, and ensure UOULU’s overall active involvement on the European level.

UOULU is an active member in 15 formally categorized EU-level thematic partnerships and also in several more that are not formally categorized under the specific partnerships framework. In addition, UOULU is a member of the UNIC European University alliance, European University Alliance (EUA), European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), Science|Business, University of the Arctic -multidisciplinary network and The Arctic Six alliance of Nordic universities. UOULU professors and researchers are active members in EU-level partnerships and their own networks and visit Brussels regularly and participate in thematic events and meetings.
